Metabolism

Metabolism is the general name for many different regulatory systems within the body. Dysfunction in any single metabolic system can cause disease. There are metabolic disorders affecting any given metabolic system. For example, there is the glucose metabolism (diabetes; hyperglycemia; hypoglycemia), thyroid metabolism (hypothyroidism; hyperthyroidism), calcium metabolism (hypocalcemia; hypercalcemia), and many, many others.
