Names of the Fingers: The five fingers have their own specific names. Their names and alternative names include:

Generally speaking, the thumb is often unrelated medically to the other fingers. The two largest fingers are the index finger and middle finger and they often have similar symptoms (because they have the same nerve). Similarly, the ring finger and the little finger (“pinky finger”) have a combined nerve (the ulnar nerve) and often have the same symptoms (e.g. tingling ring and little finger).
